About Rocking College

My friends have been calling me a "professional student" for years. If only there were such a thing! Well, technically there is: it's called being a professor. I've been doing that now for a few years so at least I can say I'm being paid to hang out on campus.

But yeah, I recently completed my second advanced degree, so when you consider that it took me over a decade to get my undergraduate degree, that means I've been in school for a good part of my life.  What can I say, I like college... and what's more, I love learning.

Of course, I also love teaching. And teaching tends to go beyond the classroom.  I'm often giving advice to students about college in general. This including friends of mine who have gone back to finish school or get advanced degrees.  Then there's my son, who recently graduated from college.  So I thought, hey, why don't I start writing about some of the topics?

I've also been doing some research on my own, asking current students and recent graduates their insights on a number of topics, since I will admit to it having been a while since I was an undergraduate.

Before transitioning to teaching, I worked in broadcasting and film for over 20 years.  I spent most of my time in operations and programming, but I've done production, promotion/advertising, producing, directing, editing, writing and on-air work. I've even appeared in TV shows and films (no, you wouldn't know me).

I've also been a cashier, transcriptionist, veterinary technician, geotechnical lab assistant, receptionist, online order-taker, animal behaviorist, and of course all kinds of jobs involving writing. So I've done a lot of different and sometimes crazy things over the years.

I'm a 40-something Gen-Xer who still loves the 80s, a gadget-addict and knowledge junkie.  In my free time, which is usually spent sleeping or trying to get to sleep, I watch mostly shows about science and history. Or I read about that stuff.  I know that makes me sound like a huge geek, but what can I say?  I also totally love to shop (especially if it involves books or gadgets).

I only just began this blog, so if I haven't gotten around to your topic yet, I should soon.  Or, if you want to ask a question, you can fill out the contact form on the home page.
